How it works

How a Garage Door Service Visit Works

Our local garage door professionals diagnose stuck, noisy and uneven doors around St. Louis. Call with the problem, and a garage door professional takes it from there.

From Describing the Problem to Testing the Repair

Call to describe the problem; the visit then moves through inspection, an explanation of the work, the repair and final operating tests. You do not need to identify a broken part or know the door's model to get started.

Describe What the Door Is Doing

Tell us whether the door stays shut, hangs open, moves unevenly or makes an unfamiliar noise. Give your town and say whether the opening belongs to a home or a business. Mention a trapped car or an opening that cannot be secured. An opener brand is useful when you already know it, but finding a label is unnecessary.

The call connects you with one of our local garage door partners. Explain anything that changed just before the trouble, such as a bang, a bump from a vehicle or a remote that stopped responding. Ordinary descriptions give your technician a starting point.

Keep the Opening Clear

Stay away from a tilted door and keep people and pets out of its path. Stop pressing the controls. If the opener plug is accessible from the floor without going near the door or damaged parts, unplug it. Leave an inaccessible plug alone.

Do not run the opener against a broken spring or try to lift the door yourself. Leave springs, cables and bottom brackets untouched. Do not pull the release handle on an open or partly open door that may fall. Use another entrance while waiting.

Find the Cause and Explain the Work

Your technician checks the springs that counterbalance the door's weight, the lift cables and the drums that wind those cables. Rollers, tracks, hinges and door sections are inspected for wear, bending and loose fittings. The opener and its photo eyes, the safety sensors near the floor, are checked too.

The inspection separates a door problem from an opener problem. A motor that strains may be pulling against a binding track or a failed spring. Your technician explains the cause, the parts involved, the proposed work and the price before starting. Door size, spring arrangement, damaged hardware and access affect the scope.

Adjust or Replace the Affected Parts

The repair addresses the faults found during inspection. Your technician corrects track alignment and door balance where needed, replaces failed parts and checks the adjoining hardware. On a door with two springs, replacing the pair is usually discussed because both have worked through the same cycles. Sound parts do not need replacement simply because another part failed.

Opener travel, the distance the motor moves the door, and force settings are checked after the door moves properly by hand. Extra motor force is not a solution for a door that binds.

Check Balance and Powered Operation

Your technician checks manual balance, runs the opener through a full cycle and tests the photo eyes and contact reversal. The door should move evenly, stay put around halfway when disconnected for the balance check, and close fully without straining. The safety tests check that an obstruction triggers the required response. Your technician explains the finished work and points out any remaining issue that needs attention.

Call with the door's symptoms so your technician can trace the fault, explain the repair and check how the door runs afterward.
